What Makes our edible flowers food grade
FAQ
Why do our fresh flowers last so long in the fridge?
All of our flowers are washed and
dried before sale! This process is why our fresh flowers have a 12 day fridge
life & our dried flowers are free of dirt or garden insects.
Taking methods and equipment from
the commercial lettuce processing industry, we have scaled these methods down
to meet our small scale.
Step 1) Prior to every harvest equipment is
sanitized before every use using the same sanitizers and process as used in
commercial facilities.
Step 2) The flowers then enter a sanitized
bubble tank filled with potable water, where jets create bubbles strong enough
to remove any dirt or beneficial insects that may be stuck between petals at
the time of harvest.
Step 3) Then the flowers are placed in our
spin dryer where they are spun at 2800rpm to remove excess moisture.
Step 4) Flowers are then graded, any damaged flowers or flowers close to going to seed at the time of harvest
are composted to feed next year’s flower beds.
